Burberry is a British luxury fashion house headquartered in London, England, founded by Thomas Burberry in 1856. The idea behind creating Burberry was to make clothing that should be designed to protect people from the British Weather. Since then Burberry has moved away from focusing on outdoor attire, moving into the High End Fashion market, becoming a leading luxury brand within fashion. Burberry is now sold in boutique stores and franchises across the globe. It was in 1879 that Thomas Burberry invented Garbadine which was a breathable fabric made from yarn that was made waterproof before the weaving process began making the fabric water-resistant and durable. In 1914 the iconic Burberry trench coat was created. The trench coat was made when it was asked to adapt a design that was practical to wear by World War 1 officers in the trenches. This piece became iconic for Burberry being worn by celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn etc making the trench look chic and desirable. This piece has stuck with Burberry throughout the years, continuing the identity created in the beginning by Thomas Burberry, now being globally recognized for their iconic trench coat, trademark check and horse logo. Burberry is now a brand that is defined by authentic British heritage, known for its principles of quality, function and modern classic style.
