In previous posts we have been researching into the moncler genius project, mainly focusing on artist Richard Quinn. To take my research further and develop it around my course i looked into his ready to wear Fall 2019 campaign, specifically focusing on the photographs and campaign for this collection. In this campaign he uses a floral illustrative backdrop for the photographs and this got me inspired for our collection. We decided as a group we wanted to go down a more playful route, a collection that was going to be a bit more graphic and colourful as well as arty, still keeping the concept of dreams and escapism. This is where the visuals will be important to convey our themes, concepts and ideas. To do this i researched into different ways this can be achieved in both the photography style and the set. Throughout all of Quinns work he carries this idea of a space age fashion, creating silhouettes and styles that are futuristic and dystopian, for us we want to focus on the idea of journey and escapism. The main inspiration behind this came from Burberry's latest collection where the idea behind that is its all about memories and the way the photographs are taken the backgrounds could be anywhere. This is something that inspired me for the way i would visually promote our collection, through either set design or editing, creating a visual that is almost dream like.

First Idea

The first idea i had for the visual promotion and photography side was to create a set design. I was inspired by these photos which are taken in the studio and flowers have been made and put into the actual set. For some of the final designs for the collection flowers was a big part of some of the pieces and this would be a good way to incorporate the flower designs on clothing into the actual set and photography.

The second idea i had was to actually illustrate onto the images. For this us visual promoters would have to take the final photographs in front of a green screen in the studio to then be able to edit and illustrate flowers or just general bold graphics over the top. This idea would fit well with the theme of bold and playful graphics that the collection will have.

Third Idea

The third idea was to direct the photography in the style of famous fashion photographer Tim Walker. His imagery is always strong and visually pleasing but not only this for his shoots he creates a set, a magical, dream like world and as escapism and journey is a concept of ours i think this will work really well. Tim Walker also shoots with a fish eye lens, which creates distorted imagery and i think this would fit and look good with the collection we plan to create.
